Running Rebels is a non-profit community organization that serves urban youth in Milwaukee. Course participants will be scheduled for youth and community engagement, including tutoring, mentoring and assisting at special events in the neighborhood.
Please note that for this course you will need:
Reliable and consistent personal transportation
Ability to pass a background check
Availability between 3:30 – 7:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, with some additional event hours available on the weekends. Upon acceptance, students must complete the volunteer link embedded in their acceptance letter.
The Service Learning in a Cross-Cultural setting requires students to establish a volunteer site wherein they will volunteer at least sixty hours. (Students will complete sixty hours between Running Rebels and the mandatory plunge work in Milwaukee that will take place on Friday, June 21st and overnight until June 22nd. We will be working with Milwaukee residents at Saint Benedict's church as well as various other social service organizations in the city during the overnight plunge.)
Most service will take place at Running Rebels in Milwaukee (www.runningrebels.org). Students must meet with the volunteer coordinator, establish their position and then complete the Site Approval form and return it to our office. Upon approval, we will register students directly into the course.
